Why you should replace your air filter this winter

Air Quality

We stress preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment constantly, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also means checking your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it all yourself! Now is the perfect time to inspect your filter, as the cold season comes to an end and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to cause a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Extra dirt that is built up on your filter can influence your whole system to work harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it hamper the performance of your system, but it can increase your energy costs and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it flows into your home. The older a filter gets, the less efficient it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your home, which is even more critical if someone in your house suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you don’t want them traveling in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and remain healthy during allergy season.

Check your system or current air filter provider for recommendations on how regularly you should be changing your filter. For most filters through US Air Heating and Cooling, we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the right time to replace your air filter?
